Belal Abdel Chapter 5 Questions (1-9) 1. The Iliad and the Odyssey were classic books from Ancient Greece. They were written by the famous greek Homer. 2. Mountains helped shape the development of Greek civilizatios because it was hard for anyone to attack Greece because of the terrain, and without the burden of war, the Atheninas had enough time to build a great civilization. 3. Spartan males and females served the military from when they were children. The Spartan boys were taken from their parents to a sort of army training camp when they were of the age fo seven. Girls were expected to raise healthy sons for the army. 4. Athens was a democracy because they had citizens and they allowed their people to decide who was in political office, but their democracy was a very limited form of democracy, because women could not vote, and slaves could not vote either. 5. The results of the Persian wars were victories for the Greeks. When the Perians first attacked Marathon they outnumbered the Greeks two to one. Yet they retreated when they saw the aggressiveness of the Greeks. The victories gave the Greeks a "sense of uniqueness", they believed that the gods, had protected them and their government. 6. The Peloponnesian war led to the eventual demise of the democratic government. They never regained the superiority that they once had, and they never were able to put together such a powerful and well constructed government again, and that led to their downfall. 7. The Socratci Method was put together by Socrates, it was a method of using trial and execution. It was his way of getting answers, and it was used as a questioning process. 8. Alexander the Great is thought of by many as the greatest conquerer ever. He conquered basically every land that was within his reach. His kingdom had control of a large area. He created cities in his conquests, and after his death, though the Hellenistic culture emerged. 9. The cultures that were blended to form the Hellenistic civilization were Persian, Greek, Indian, and Egyptian. This civilization would be one of the greatest for centuries. | ![]() | ![]() |
